January 08 Msn spaceMaybe I lack imagination but I really do not like the setup of msn space. It takes long to load up every page and the darn modules completely cover the background images. This is why I have not been writing in here recently, I just don't have the patience to fiddle with this. I should in fact keep it very simple simple simple then I may have no problems.
Would like to say a hug and hello to MKN of UK happy new year with love from moi xoxo.
Also would like to add Jess to this msn once I figure it out haha!
Hello to Peggy who has used her space so creatively and with loads of pics especially the one with her cute brother hehe.
If you care to know what's new with me: I started doing yoga woohoo! loves it, looooves it!
I am learning some new raqs sharki dances, teaching myself with videos from the wonderful Yasmina Ramzy - I just love her so much.

May 11 May UpdateI've recently discovered the joy of listening to ghazals. A friend recommended Ghulam Ali and Jagjit Singh, both world famous and beloved singers in South Asia. Ghulam is the modern day guru of ghazals. My first experience was Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa next Yeh Dil, Yeh Pagal Dil Mera, and I fell in love instantly. My search for someone to love nearly as much as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has finally been ended! Ghulam's voice is very rich and soothing. I've memorized some of his songs by now as I did for Kiran Ahluwalia, a contemporary artist in Toronto whose ghazals are the very first I have ever heard and I was privileged to hear them live in concert. Her rendition of Yaar, a heartwrenching poem written by the last Emporer in Delhi who was exiled from India in the 1850s about his longing to see his homeland again before death. My heart ached and I felt moved to tears feeling the pain and desperation of this man's last dying wish. Sigh!! I rely on tranliterations to understand ghazals, it inspires me, I get so excited about ancient words coming alive. Feeling them in the heart, reliving them. The richness of south asian poetry is like a deep ocean with endless possibilities of discovery. I'm enthralled. So now, I am on a mission to find out all I can about ghazal writers and reading transliterations of some of Galib's works. Any online information you may have would be greatly appreciated. April 07 a lil updateBit of an update:
Good news first.
I successfully completed my 5k running goal and have just begun a new goal of 10km. I will be conditioning for the next 9 weeks for it. I now can run halfway up Dufferin Hill, and for those of you Thunder Bay-ites or -ians, you know this is aka heartattack hill haha! jk. I'm still going full force in my dance classes twice per week, recently have been doing more public performances ie International Week at the university, and the Black History month at the University as well. What does raqs sharqi have to do with black history? Je ne sais pas!
Despite all my wonderful engertic exercising, I haven't gotten any trimmer hahhahahaha!! Well, I HAVE toned up but the weight remains steady. Guess I should give up cheeseburgers and pasta huh? Oh Summer is upon us! I can't wait to be out there enjoying the fresh air and sun. I'm still going to wear a bikini at the beach! I guess I just want to focus on the positive. I'm going to save my heartache for a mysterious poem no one can figure out hahahaa!! Anyhoo just wanted to update my friends and family of my goings on. Have a wonderful weekend! December 12 Weekend TO TripJust got back from Tee Dot yesterday, it was a wonderful visit, so little time! I want to go back there asap and spend an extra day or two this time around. I brought the northern snowfall with me, the city received 10 cm of snow and temp went up to -10 including wind chill factor that morning, it looked very normal to me, heck I thought it was quite balmy there! I felt some happiness come over me as soon as I saw the CN tower and Lake Ontario, feeling of gushing sentimentalism, because TO is my birthplace and thinking of mom. Mom was living there alone attending university. Wow. What a great and very brave mom I have to venture out to the big city to get her ejamacation, who came from the wee northern reserve of Bearskin Lake and small town living. I visited with some friends from Toronto, Shoab, whom I haven't seen in about 7 years, and Omar, who took me to little India for the afternoon. I had the best time! I tried on a beautiful, fancy sari, oh my goodness! too bad I didn't have a camera!! Omar said I instantly transformed into an Indian in that sari. I was in my own little heaven being in the stores, so many beautiful fabrics, glitter and designs... sigh! Now I know how to wrap a sari! I am so excited about that. My dance performance was held at the Estonian House downtown, it was the Arabesque Dance Co. Student Gala, very well attended. My first time peforming in front of a crowd of a few hundred, eeeps... I was not one bit nervous the entire time until .... I started dancing ... and I saw the crowd.. I felt the ripple of fear run through my body. It was the strangest feeling!! I felt I was shaking on the inside and couldn't control it. Wow. It was so unexpected. I plowed through it and executed the dance despite my fear. It was a wonderful new experience! Something to learn from. I am sure my performance was not perfect but I did my best and it was a great experience. My fellow dancers did an excellent job, Marci Louttit, Gloria Pellerin, Lyndi Elliot and my teacher Satu. We received many positive comments from other dancers, they enjoyed hearing the good ole Saidi style drum while the rest of songs were of more modern music. September 28 Dinner and Concert - Trichy's TrioWe attended the Raag-Rung Music Circle's dinner and concert "Trichy's Trio" at the Italian Cultural Centre on Sep 24th. The concert was south indian classical music called Karnatica. It was very mesmerizing.
We received many compliments from the east Indian ladies in the crowd on our outfits (the style is called salwar kameez). I'm so glad Marcie dragged me down to buy one, otherwise, I wouldn't have worn one.
After the concert, native dancers from Saskatchewan gave performances on different types of dance. I did the best I could to get their pics but I was too far away, so here's a couple.
I went with Connie, Peggy, Marcie, Rosie, Gloria and Rob.
We all had a great time! September 13 Indians on the Golf CourseIndians on the Golf Course was a great turnout, about 35 indians played @ Centennial 9-hole Best Ball. Me and my partner Calvin Redskye won first place, my sister and Terry Waboose won second, Travis Boissoneau and Crystal Hardy won third.
Travis managed to scoop the Closest to the Pin and Longest Men's Drive - good jobby Travis! Meladina Hardy won Ladies Longest Drive, Tesa Beardy won Ladies Closest to the Pin. I am very proud of myself, I did my first drive of over 200 yards. Woohoo!!
I must say Calvin is an amazing player, he does tournaments in Manitoba and Ontario whenever he can. At one point, a ball got stuck in the most impossible place, behind a patch of trees, he pitched the ball above the trees, landing on the green only a about a metre from the hole. Wow.
Afterwards we bbq'd at sis house and rocked the house with exuberant karaoke. It was a great day and night I say. We have some memorable video footage of Corinne's rendition of "Indian Reservation" of the Ojicree Nation! You guys have to see this whenever you come to visit, Fran and Abby.
